Kylian Mbappé put France ahead in Turkey before having to be substituted due to injury. An initial diagnosis of his knee injury was made early on Saturday evening.
Kylian Mbappé is unlikely to miss Real Madrid’s matches following his injury whilst on international duty with France. As the club announced on Saturday following a medical examination, the 27-year-old suffered a sprain to the posterior capsule of his left knee. It is estimated that the forward will need to rest for ten to twelve days and should therefore be available again for the first match after the international break, against Villarreal on 10 October.
Mbappé sustained the injury to his left knee during the Equipe Tricolore’s Nations League match in Turkey. He “hyperextended his knee” whilst taking the shot that led to the 1–0 winning goal, as his manager Zinedine Zidane explained after his first international match in charge. After receiving brief treatment, he even tried to play on for a short while, but was then replaced by Desiré Doué in the 59th minute. The 2018 World Cup winner had already travelled back to Madrid for further treatment.
Mbappé continues to score at a rapid pace
Despite a rather slow start to the season by Real’s standards, Mbappé is nonetheless his club’s top scorer in La Liga with seven goals from seven matches. He is joint second on the league’s top scorers’ list alongside Sergio Camello of Rayo Vallecano and Lamine Yamal. Only Barça’s Raphinha has scored more, with twelve goals.
Furthermore, last season’s Champions League top scorer (15 goals) also found the net on Matchday 1 of this season’s Champions League against Inter Milan, setting up the 1–0 victory with his goal. Real’s next Champions League fixture is on 14 October (9.00 pm) away at AS Roma, one of manager José Mourinho’s former clubs.
