Ingolstadt sign Stojanovic from FC Middlesbrough

FC Ingolstadt have strengthened their squad for the second half of the season with a goalkeeper who comes from England and knows the 2nd Bundesliga very well.

Just before the turn of the year, FCI loaned Dejan Stojanovic from FC Middlesbrough – including a purchase option. “For our big challenge in the second half of the season, we must and will increase the competition within our team in order to be able to achieve the maximum performance,” manager professional football Malte Metzelder explained the transfer in the official announcement.

Stojanovic is experienced, determined and “radiates positive energy”, Metzelder continued. “He added that the goalkeeper had already “impressively demonstrated his nerve, resilience and professionalism in a very similar situation last season at FC St. Pauli”.

“I will quickly find my feet “

The 1.96 m tall Austrian joined the “Kiezkickern” on loan at the beginning of 2021 and played a major role in keeping Hamburg out of the relegation zone. “I know the 2nd Bundesliga and the situation FC Ingolstadt 04 is in very well and will quickly find my feet,” announced Stojanovic, who wants to show “from day one” that staying in the league will be achieved “at all costs”.

Born in Vorarlberg, Stojanovic has played for FC Lustenau, FC Bologna and FC Crotone in his career, and later spent several years with FC St. Gallen in Switzerland. Since 2019, he has been under contract with English second division club FC Middlesbrough.

In Ingolstadt he will mainly be the opponent of Fabijan Buntic, who has played 17 of 18 games so far this season. In the 18th league game Robert Jendruch stood between the posts.
