If Re-elected as Real Madrid President: Perez Announces Record-Breaking Offer

Real Madrid will elect a new president on Sunday. Florentino Perez has once again ramped up his campaign efforts—and announced that, should he win the election, he would make a new club-record offer for a player.

Presidential elections are scheduled for Sunday at Real Madrid, ahead of which the two candidates, Enrique Riquelme and Florentino Perez, have long been heavily promoting themselves. After challenger Riquelme announced a few days ago that he intended to sign Erling Haaland if he won the election—a move that caused anger in Haaland’s camp and at ManCity—Perez has now also made a major transfer promise should he be re-elected as the most powerful man at the Madrid club.

“On Tuesday, I will submit an offer of 150 million euros for a top player from a Champions League team,” Perez announced on the program “Horizonte” on the Spanish television channel Cuatro—which would also set a new record for the Royals, currently held by Jude Bellingham—thanks to bonus payments—at 127 million euros. Only Gareth Bale and Eden Hazard have also broken the 100-million-euro mark.

Dumfries, Konaté, and Mourinho all signed and sealed

With these statements, Perez naturally invited fans to engage in wild speculation, but he also immediately followed up with a few hints about which players it definitely isn’t—a relief for Bayern fans as well. “Olise is a great player, but he’s not the one.” Nor is it said to be Harry Kane, Haaland, Jeremy Doku, or, more generally, a player from the Premier League. But: “The offer is for a player of the caliber of Cristiano Ronaldo or Kaká,” said Perez, whose goal is “to excite the fans and bring the best players to Real Madrid.”

Incidentally, Perez also confirmed the imminent transfer of Denzel Dumfries to Real, which has been the subject of public speculation for days. “He follows Konaté and Mourinho as transfers that have already been finalized.” The coming days in the Spanish capital are therefore sure to remain exciting.
