On Sunday, two important group matches were on the EuroBasket schedule. Greece took a big step toward the round of 16 with a clear victory over Georgia, while Slovenia finally celebrated its first win after two defeats.
Slovenia secured its first win after two defeats at the start with an 86-69 victory over Belgium. Superstar Luka Doncic was the outstanding player with 26 points, ten rebounds, and eleven assists, shining with a triple-double – only the fifth in EuroBasket history. The Slovenians were already leading by double digits at halftime, laying the foundation for what would later be a clear victory.
Belgium held its own for long stretches, but was unable to stop Doncic’s individual class. Andy Van Vliet was Belgium’s top scorer with 15 points, followed by Emmanuel Lecomte with 13 points. After this must-win game, Slovenia can once again hope to advance, while Belgium falls behind in the standings.
Greece took a big step toward early qualification for the round of 16 with a clear 94-53 victory over Georgia. Giannis Antetokounmpo was the outstanding player on the court with 27 points and excellent shooting percentages, setting the tone early on. The Greeks already had a clear lead at halftime before extending their advantage further after the break.
Georgia rested two of its key players, Tornike Shengelia and Goga Bitadze, and was unable to withstand the intense pressure from the Greeks. Konstantinos Mitoglou impressed with 17 points, while Vassilis Spanoulis’ team converted 56 percent of its three-pointers and distributed 28 assists. On the Georgian side, only Aleksander Mamukelashvili (14) and Giorgi Shermadini (11) put up any resistance at times, but in the end it was a clear defeat against one of the favorites.
