Herberth Motorsport: Double victory for ADAC GT Masters team in Abu Dhabi

Herberth Motorsport dominates the second half of the 2022 season in the Asian Le Mans Series – The black Porsche prevails in the two final races

Team Herberth Motorsport, familiar from the ADAC GT Masters, has tackled the Asian Le Mans Series – with success: at the two 4-hour races at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, Robert Renauer, Alfred Reauer and Ralf Bohn celebrated not one but two victories in the GT3 class with a strong field of 23 cars.

The trio drove the Porsche 91 to victory in both races. “We can be proud of ourselves,” says Robert Renauer. “Of course it could have gone even better, but we weren’t sorted for that in Dubai. We showed that we had what it takes to win the title with the results in Abu Dhabi. “

The top car only finished fifth and sixth in the Dubai races. Nevertheless, it was almost enough for the Le Mans ticket. With the two wins at the Yas Marina Circuit, the 7 (Barnicoat/Iribe/Millroy).

This secured a win at the Dubai opener, the other Dubai victory going to the 33, Klaus Bachler, Antares Au and Porsche Asia Junior Yifei Ye finished eighth in the championship. The car rounded off a one-two finish for the team at the final race in Abu Dhabi.

It was also Ye who wrote another episode of curious penalties in the Asian Le Mans Series. At the Dubai weekend, he was caught with fake FiA homologation stickers and had to pay a fine of 10,000 euros. Reason: he forged the stickers due to his superstition.

A third Herberth Porsche with start number 99 was entered with drivers Finn Gehrsitz, Jürgen Häring and Marco Seefried, who competed in the sub-category for amateur crews. This worked out excellently with several podium finishes in the class.

For the team, it was actually primarily about introducing the only 17-year-old Gehrsitz to GT racing. “Of course we are happy about the podium finishes, but it is much more important that Finn was able to develop further over both weekends and showed very good performances. It was a very strong debut for him,” said Alfred Renauer.

Herberth Motorsport has not yet announced anything about its involvement in the 2022 ADAC GT Masters. The Renauer brothers’ team, named after their father Alfred Herberth, who died in a car accident in 2012, has been competing in the ADAC GT Masters since 2012. The only exception was a time-out in 2015 and 2016. The team also contests the 24h Series and debuted at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2021.
