Herbert drops four players from World Cup squad

The German national team has made further personnel decisions on the way to the World Cup.

Directly after the test match victory against Sweden on Saturday evening in Bonn (87:68), national coach Gordon Herbert removed four players from the World Cup squad. Jonas Mattisseck, Louis Olinde (both Alba Berlin), Christian Sengfelder from Telekom Baskets Bonn and Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann, who plays for Towers Hamburg, are no longer in the squad, the association announced.

Centre player Wohlfarth-Bottermann and power forward Sengfelder were part of the squad that won the bronze medal at the strong home European Championships a year ago. Head coach Herbert will have to inform two more players of their early withdrawal from the World Cup before it starts on 25 August in Okinawa, Japan. At the world tournament, a maximum of twelve throwers are allowed in the squad.

The German team will play five more test matches before the tournament starts. Opponents are, among others, top favourite USA, Greece and Canada. The clear goal is a medal. On Sunday, the DBB team will travel to Berlin.
