Her Ordeal Continues

Less than a week ago, she was still in the Wimbledon final—now Karolina Muchova has had to undergo surgery once again.

While other tennis stars treat themselves to a few days of rest or even a short vacation after a successful Wimbledon tournament, Karolina Muchova’s daily life looks different once again.

The Wimbledon finalist, who lost in three sets to her compatriot Linda Noskova just under a week ago, first headed to a hospital to undergo what she described as a “minor surgery.”

The Czech player did not reveal exactly what the surgery entailed. Muchova simply posted a video on Instagram showing how her original idea of a vacation ended up turning into another hospital stay.

Muchova has a long history of injuries

Fittingly, she chose “Oops!…I Did It Again” by Britney Spears as her soundtrack—after all, for the 29-year-old, this is just another chapter in a long history of injuries.

Her wrist, in particular, has caused the world No. 6 frequent problems in recent years and required surgery in 2024, which sidelined her for an extended period. She was still plagued by issues with it last year as well.

This time, according to Muchova herself, she’s expected to be sidelined for only a few weeks, which is why she’s already had to withdraw from the WTA tournament in Montreal (August 1–13).

However, she hopes to return in time for the U.S. Open (August 31–September 13) and, ideally, use the Cincinnati tournament, which takes place shortly before, as a warm-up. Over the past three years, she has reached the semifinals in New York twice.
