Peter Zeidler has found a new job eight months after being released by VfL Bochum. The 62-year-old is returning to Switzerland to become head coach of Lausanne-Sport.
Following the departure of coach Ludovic Magnin to FC Basel, a position on the sidelines has become vacant at FC Lausanne-Sport. However, the search for a successor did not take long. The name Peter Zeidler quickly made the rounds, and on Saturday, the German was officially presented as the new head coach of Lausanne-Sport. The 62-year-old had been without a coaching job since his dismissal from VfL Bochum in October last year and has now signed for the club in the canton of Vaud.
Sporting director Stephane Henchoz, a former professional with Hamburger SV, said of Zeidler’s appointment: “He needs no introduction, his career speaks for itself. With his wealth of experience, his knowledge of the Swiss league and the successes he has achieved,“ Zeidler is exactly the right coach for Lausanne and, as a former French teacher, speaks the language perfectly. ”He was our first choice, I am very satisfied and look forward to welcoming him to La Tuilière on Monday,” Henchoz continued.
VfL Bochum is also likely to be pleased about its former coach’s new job, as he still had a valid contract until 2026 and was therefore on the payroll. Shortly after Zeidler’s appointment in Switzerland was announced, the club announced the termination of his contract. Zeidler’s new job therefore represents a financial relief for VfL.
Successful spell in St. Gallen, false start in Bochum
While things did not go well for Zeidler in the Bundesliga (first-round exit in the DFB Cup against Jahn Regensburg, then bottom of the second division, and only one point from his first seven Bundesliga games), he had caused a sensation with his attacking football at his previous clubs in Switzerland. The native of Swabia led both FC Sion and FC St. Gallen (twice) to the cup final, and in 2020 he finished runner-up with Espen.
