Fortnite: Epic Games introduces IARC ratings.

Instances will receive internationally recognised age and content ratings in Fortnite from 14 November. What will change for creators in the future

From 14 November, Epic Games will introduce internationally recognised age and content ratings in Fortnite in collaboration with the International Age Rating Coaliation (IARC). This was announced by the publisher in a press release.

All playable content from first- and third-party providers will be affected. This means that anyone who wants to publish an island must fill out an IARC content rating questionnaire. Epic moderators then review this and the creator receives “an age-based IARC rating for the island’s content, as well as region-specific ratings from IARC-participating rating bodies,” the notice says.

Islands already created will also be reviewed

The publisher added: “IARC’s scalable, global solution provides parents and gamers with trusted guidelines from ESRB (North America), PEGI (Europe), ACB (Australia), USK (Germany), ClassInd (Brazil) and others, depending on the region. Participating rating authorities may change one or more of the assigned ratings based on their own review of the game after its release.”

The questionnaire is already available on the “Creators Portal” from 16 October and must also be completed by 14 November for existing islands. If this is not done, unrated islands will be removed from the list.
