Thomas Müller will continue to play for the Vancouver Whitecaps next year; the 37-year-old has extended his contract with the Canadian club. He will thus experience a new development in Major League Soccer in 2027.
Just over a year after signing him, the Whitecaps announced on Tuesday that they had extended Thomas Müller’s contract. The 37-year-old has extended his contract “until the end of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season”. The North American league will initially play a shortened season next year, as it is subsequently switching its fixture schedule to align with the European one. Müller’s new contract therefore runs until 30 June 2027.
“He has further strengthened the winning mentality we have built up within our team over recent years, demonstrating just how committed he is to the success of this club and how much he wants to win. There is no question that, as a club, we have reached new heights since Thomas’s arrival,” said Axel Schuster, sporting director of the Whitecaps.
Müller has scored 19 goals for Vancouver to date
Müller moved to Vancouver in August 2025 after 25 years at FC Bayern and promptly celebrated a title. In 2025, the Whitecaps won the Canadian Cup. Müller also led the team to the Western Conference Championship. In the MLS Championship final, however, Vancouver lost to Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami (1–3).
In total, the Weilheim-born player has made 45 appearances for the Whitecaps, scoring 19 goals and providing twelve assists. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here right from the start. Vancouver has been very open and welcoming towards me, and I’ve felt that spirit throughout the whole club,” explained Müller.
But the 131-time Germany international is currently sensing that enthusiasm not only within the club, but also in the city itself. He attributes this to the team’s attacking style of play. “The fans are enjoying it, and I think everyone wants to be part of what we’re building right now. For me, it’s still incredibly fun to be out on the pitch every week, and physically I feel good,” said the attacking player.
This continues to be evident on the pitch. With key player Müller, who on Sunday against DC United (3–3) scored one goal and provided one assist, the Whitecaps sit top of the Western Conference. They are three points ahead of Dallas, who have even played one more match.
