FC Memmingen has pulled off a transfer coup: The regional league club has signed Dominik Stroh-Engel for the second half of the season.
The 36-year-old, who most recently played for Austrian club FC Kufstein, has a contract until June 2024, when he would be 38 years old. But his age is not important to him: “I know my body and have been very lucky that I have never been injured. As long as I know I’m better than my teammates, no matter in which league, I’ll play football.”
Stroh-Engel brings with him the experience of 22 Bundesliga games (for Darmstadt 98 and Eintracht Frankfurt), 49 second division and 242 third division appearances (including SV Wehen Wiesbaden, Karlsruher SC, SpVgg Unterhaching). His most successful period was with the Lilien, with whom he was promoted to both the 2nd division (2014) and the Bundesliga (2015). In the 2013/14 season, he scored 27 goals for Darmstadt, setting a Drittliga record that still stands today.
Memmingen are in twelfth place in the Regionalliga Bayern with 28 points from 24 games. The relegation places are five points away, but some teams placed behind FCM have played fewer games. Stroh-Engel is expected to help prevent Memmingen from being in danger in the new year. He proved that he has not forgotten how to score goals in the last six months in Kufstein: He scored 14 goals in 18 games for the Austrian regional league club.
