DTM support program 2024 with first electric junior touring car series

Following last year’s premiere, the ADAC is also relying on the Swedish NXT Gen Cup in the 2024 support program: Three German guest appearances are planned

This year, the DTM will twice be the platform for the world’s first all-electric junior touring car series: The NXT Gen Cup will hold its championship rounds as part of the DTM supporting program from July 5 to 7 at the Norisring in Nuremberg and from October 18 to 20 at the season finale at the Hockenheimring

The six-weekend racing calendar of the junior series, whose participants must be between the ages of 15 and 25, includes guest appearances at Formula E in addition to the DTM. The first German guest appearance of the year will therefore take place on May 11 and 12 as part of the E-Prix in Berlin.

The 20-minute races will be held with more than 20 LRT-NXT-1 unitary cars, which are based on the road-legal Mini Cooper SE and deliver up to 230 hp. Last year, the Swedish series, which was launched in 2023, made its debut in the DTM supporting program at the Nürburgring weekend.

“We are delighted to be able to further expand our collaboration with the innovative NXT Gen Cup in 2024 after the successful first races last year,” said ADAC Head of Motorsport Thomas Voss.

“The cooperation fits perfectly with our pioneering role in motorsport when it comes to topics such as sustainable fuel, an electric rally series and concepts for sustainable events.”

Fredrik Lestrup, founder of the racing series, is proud to be hosting such prominent series: “Together with ABB FIA Formula E and the DTM, we have created a spectacular calendar that offers our young drivers a strong platform at the start of their careers and gives them the chance to showcase their talent to some of the best teams and partners in the world.”

The fact that the NXT Gen Cup “has developed from an idea on paper to a series within Formula E and the DTM in less than two years is overwhelming,” he says.
