Djokovic gives health update

The chase for 100 can continue: Djokovic wants to be back on court at the ATP tournament in Doha.

A good two weeks after his injury-related withdrawal in the Australian Open semi-final against Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic has announced his return to the tennis court – and he wants to quickly chase his 100th tournament victory on the ATP tour.

“The injury is almost 100 percent healed. I’m ready to get more wins,” the Serb said in an interview with the Montenegrin newspaper Vijesti. He had ‘the green light from the medical team to train and prepare,’ he explained.

The Serb’s plan is to be back on court at the ATP tournament in Doha, Qatar (starting February 17). In January, Djokovic was still aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title in Australia, but he withdrew in the semi-finals due to a torn muscle against the German number one Zverev.

Now, Djokovic is already setting his sights on the next special number. Since October last year, he has been “hunting for his 100th ATP title.” At the Masters in Shanghai, the Serb was defeated by the Italian world number one, Jannik Sinner.

Only Roger Federer (103) and Jimmy Connors (109) have won 100 ATP tournaments so far, and the Grand Slam record holder (99) wants to join this illustrious circle. However, the 37-year-old does not feel any time pressure: “We’ll see, it will come when it comes.” Despite “a few more injuries”, his body is still doing him good service and he still has “fire and desire”.
