Kylian Mbappé is currently “a little more in the eye of the storm” – partly because PSG won the Champions League in his first season after his transfer. Nevertheless, he does not regret leaving Real Madrid.
The match for third place in the Nations League no longer has much significance – at least for the French. Didier Deschamps “did not hide the fact that interest is relative.” Accordingly, the press conference, which was also attended by Kylian Mbappé, was less about preparing for the game and more about the Équipe Tricolore captain, who is losing prestige. “I’m a little more in the eye of the storm,” said the 26-year-old.
But this clearly doesn’t bother him. He said he has “often experienced” such situations and has been able to “reverse the trend.” In fact, he has done quite a bit over the past six months to reverse it – at least according to his statistics. He scored 21 of his 31 league goals after the turn of the year. “I feel good, I feel like things are looking up,” he explained.
Mbappé emphasizes the importance of emphasis
However, one thing was missing, of course: titles – although he corrected a journalist when asked about this: “I haven’t won any titles? Yes, we haven’t won any important titles. Words are important,” explained Mbappé.
In fact, the striker added two more trophies to his collection. He won both the European Super Cup (2-0) against Atalanta Bergamo and the Intercontinental Cup against CF Pachuca (3-0) with Real Madrid. Mbappé scored in both finals.
But it was others who celebrated the major titles. Like his former club PSG, which, according to coach Luis Enrique, is “better without Mbappé.” Although his long-time club won the trophy for the first time less than twelve months after his move to Real Madrid, the striker does not regret his decision. “I didn’t leave too early. My story with PSG was over. There is no bitterness, no regrets. It’s just fate. I would have tried everything, but it had to happen without me,“ said the Golden Boot winner. Instead, he was happy for the club because he had ”worked hard for years.”
