Contract expires: Zakaria also leaves Gladbach

First Matthias Ginter, now Denis Zakaria: The 25-year-old Swiss will leave Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer in the summer.

While homegrown Jordan Beyer extended his contract until 2026, Zakaria informed Borussia that he wants to leave the club in the summer after five years. The Foals informed about this on Wednesday. However, the Swiss player was absent from the Bundesliga 14th-placed club’s training kick-off on the same day: His Corona test had previously been positive, as had that of Keanan Bennetts.

In addition to Zakaria, Matthias Ginter will also no longer play for Borussia next season. Unusually, unlike Zakaria, Ginter had announced the split himself via Instagram.

“We now know with whom we can plan for next season and with whom we cannot, and under what auspices we will go into the second half of the season. That was important to us,” said sporting director Max Eberl before the start of training on Wednesday.

Like Ginter, Zakaria’s contract expires at the end of the season. Therefore, both professionals can transfer free of charge.
