Cash windfall for Benfica: PSG sign Goncalo Ramos permanently

Goncalo Ramos joined Paris St. Germain on loan in the summer, now PSG have announced that they have signed the Portuguese on a permanent deal – and Benfica can look forward to many millions of euros

Goncalo Ramos’ star finally rose at the World Cup in Qatar, more specifically in Portugal’s 6:1 win over Switzerland, when he scored a treble. It is not known whether this was the moment when Paris made the decision to bring the striker to the French capital. But the fact is that Goncalo Ramos moved to PSG in the summer from Benfica Lisbon, where he scored 38 goals in 91 games between 2019 and 2023 – initially only on loan.

In Paris, he established himself in the first eleven under coach Luis Enrique, scoring two goals in eleven games for Paris in Ligue 1 and also appearing in PSG’s four Champions League matches. The 22-year-old made 15 out of a possible 16 competitive appearances and impressed the club’s bosses, who have now signed Ramos on a permanent deal.

As PSG announced on Wednesday evening, the Portuguese international striker (10 caps, 7 goals) has signed a contract until 2028. The Ligue 1 leaders did not disclose the amount of the transfer fee, but according to media reports, Benfica will receive €65 million plus a further €15 million in bonuses.

While things are going well for Ramos and his colleagues in the league, things are not looking quite so rosy in the Champions League. After four games, the Parisians are in second place in Group F with six points – behind leaders Borussia Dortmund (7) and ahead of AC Milan (5) and Newcastle United (4).
