As part of the Icon League, Max Kruse is also asked about Joshua Kimmich. When asked about the Bayern captain, the former professional is clear.

Does Bayern star and DFB captain Joshua Kimmich lack the leadership gene? Former professional Max Kruse has a clear answer to the question of what makes a leader and whether Kimmich fits the bill.

“I think a leader is characterised not only by his strong performance on the pitch, but also by the way he keeps the team together off the pitch. That he gets the lads on board, even in moments when things aren’t going so well, and that he leads the way,” said Kruse during the Icon League.

Whilst Kimmich’s performances on the pitch are beyond reproach, the same cannot be said for every area: “I don’t think he’s ever experienced a time when things haven’t gone his way,” explained Kruse. During his time at Bayern, Kimmich has rarely had moments when things haven’t gone his way.

Kimmich? “Not a relentless driving force”

Kimmich has won a total of 25 titles with FC Bayern, including one Champions League and ten league titles.

“That’s why I have my doubts. To me, he’s just not a powerhouse,” Kruse concluded.
