FC Bayern will be able to field its two new signings, Jonathan Tah and Tom Bischof, in the upcoming Club World Cup in the US. The record champions confirmed on Monday evening that agreements had been reached with Bayer 04 Leverkusen and TSG Hoffenheim.
Jonathan Tah and Tom Bischof would have joined FC Bayern on a free transfer after their contracts with their clubs expired. However, due to the “new” Club World Cup this summer, which starts on June 15 and therefore falls within the validity of the previous contracts, the record champions had to negotiate compensation payments with both clubs.
FC Bayern first reached an agreement with Leverkusen that the Munich club had also concluded talks with Hoffenheim. The German champions then officially confirmed this on Monday evening.
According to information, the transfer fee for Tah is a fixed sum including bonuses of between two and four million euros. FC Bayern will transfer around €300,000 to Kraichgau for Bischof, but this sum could increase if coach Vincent Kompany’s team is successful in the tournament.
“We want to have a say in the title race”
“We are delighted to have reached an agreement with Leverkusen and Hoffenheim and that Jonathan and Tom are now part of our squad. Both players will enhance our options at the Club World Cup. We are all very excited about this new tournament in the USA, where we want to have a say in the title race,” said sporting director Max Eberl in a club statement.
The Bayern squad will fly to the United States on Tuesday to prepare for the tournament in Orlando. FC Bayern will kick off in Group C on June 15 in Cincinnati against New Zealand champions Auckland City, before facing Boca Juniors from Argentina (June 19 in Miami) and Portuguese record champions Benfica Lisbon (June 24 in Charlotte) to conclude the group stage.
