Balotelli’s turbulent days: dispute with coach and move to Switzerland

Mario Balotelli leaves Turkish first division club Adana Demirspor to play for FC Sion. However, the last chapter in Turkey had it all over again.

Italy, England, France, finally Turkey – and now Switzerland: Mario Balotelli (32) is continuing his sometimes turbulent and sometimes brilliant football career at FC Sion, according to several media reports. According to reports, the Swiss first division club will transfer a transfer fee of almost two million euros to Adana Demirspor, where Balotelli originally had a contract until 2024.

The transfer had already been hinted at in recent weeks when Sion sporting director Barthelemy Constantin, among others, made the interest public. However, Balotelli’s departure from Turkey after just one year (18 goals in 33 games) is probably finally sealed with the scenes of last weekend.

Fight with Montella

After the final whistle of Adana’s 1-0 win over Ümraniyespor, Balotelli had an intense exchange with his coach and compatriot Vincenzo Montella. The latter also physically attacked the former Italian international and had to be restrained by officials.

Balotelli is expected in Sion as early as Wednesday for his medical check and contract signing. According to Italian media, the brawny and technically skilled striker will sign a contract until 2025. After Manchester City, Liverpool FC and AC Milan, among others, it will be Balotelli’s eleventh stop in professional football.
