After Pacult’s departure: Jancker presses the “reset button” in Klagenfurt

Former striker Carsten Jancker is tasked with saving Austria Klagenfurt from relegation. Following the departure of Peter Pacult, another former Rapid player has taken up the fight to avoid relegation in the Carinthian capital – and is starting from scratch.

Carsten Jancker has started his mission to keep Austria Klagenfurt in the league. The 50-year-old German, who replaced Peter Pacult as coach of the Carinthian Bundesliga club on Sunday, led his first training session on Monday. “We’ve now pressed the reset button, we have to detach ourselves from everything that distracts us and focus on the next task,” Jancker explained.

Austria Klagenfurt has slipped to second-last place in the qualifying group, level on points with bottom club GAK. In Graz on Friday, the team will be looking to take the first step out of the crisis to avoid falling to the bottom of the table with three rounds to go before the end of the season. “We will use the training sessions to prepare the boys as best we can and do everything we can to give them the necessary confidence and self-belief,” said Jancker. “We have four final games ahead of us – and we’re looking forward to them.”

The former striker has already coached SV Horn and DSV Leoben, but is now in charge of a Bundesliga club for the first time. “It felt really good to be on the pitch with the guys. Of course, there is a certain amount of tension, after all, the situation is not easy overall,” Jancker said after his first training session.
