Alba Berlin has secured an important victory in the race for the playoffs. In the rematch of the 2024 playoff semifinals, the capital city team dominated the Niners Chemnitz at will in the first half.
It was set to be an exciting top-of-the-table clash to round off the 30th matchday in the BBL. With 15 wins each, Chemnitz and Berlin were neck and neck in the table going into tip-off. The visitors, in tenth place, were under particular pressure.
It was Alba Berlin who knew how to deal with this situation best. After a hard-fought first quarter (23:27), the home side completely collapsed. Chemnitz managed only four meagre points in the entire quarter.
The visitors from the capital took full advantage of this and repeatedly scored high-percentage shots on fast breaks and in the zone. Yanni Wetzell had a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds. The result: a 23-0 run – Berlin even won the entire second quarter 4:35!
The Saxon crowd punished their team after the break with chants of “Come on!” It didn’t help much: at one point, the hosts trailed by 42 points. Chemnitz was only able to make the result look a little better as the game progressed.
