After first win of the season: Norwich sack coach Farke

Premier League promoted Norwich City have sacked their German coach Daniel Farke – the timing is particularly surprising.

Farke is no longer coach at Norwich, the club announced via Twitter this evening. The 45-year-old had taken over the then second division club for the 2017/18 season and led them to the Premier League in his second year in charge. Norwich were immediately relegated, but those responsible held on to Farke. Farke repaid the faith placed in him by winning promotion at the end of the last season.

So far in the 2021/22 season, Norwich have rarely been able to keep up with the competition, standing on just five points and a goal difference of 5:26 after eleven games. On Saturday, however, the Canaries celebrated their first win of the season, winning 2-1 at cheeky fellow promoted Brentford with goals from Normann and Pukki (penalty). After Farke had answered journalists’ questions afterwards, he was informed of the parting, according to information from “The Athletic”.

“Now the right time” for the club

Sporting Director Stuart Webber spoke in the evening of a “difficult decision” that had to be made for the good of the club. He said those in charge felt “now was the right time to make a change in that position”.

In addition to Farke, the departure of his assistants Eddie Riemer, Chris Domogalla and Christopher John was also announced.
