After eleven years in Portland: Lillard to join Bucks

A groundbreaking trade is on the horizon in the NBA – one that has the potential to have a major impact on the balance of power in the league. Damian Lillard is about to be traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Lillard’s move to the Bucks is just a formality. First, the usually excellently informed ESPN journalist Adrian Wojnarowski had reported about the transfer. The 33-year-old Lillard is to move from the Portland Trail Blazers to Milwaukee and strengthen the squad around Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez – the new signing gives the Bucks’ title ambitions an additional boost.

The spectacular change of the guard is made possible by a three-team trade. The Bucks send playmaker Jrue Holiday to Portland, also Deandre Ayton and Toumani Camara switch from the Phoenix Suns to the Trail Blazers – and the Bucks sacrifice the unprotected first-round pick 2029, among others. The Suns, in turn, get Portland’s Jusuf Nurkic as well as Milwaukee’s Grayson Allen, Nassir Little and Keon Johnson.

For Lillard, this ends a special chapter in his career. The seven-time NBA All-Star and 2020 Bubble MVP played for Portland for eleven years. The biggest success: reaching the Conference Finals in the West in 2019.

Recently, there had been repeated rumours about the future of the native Californian, who had made it clear that he did not want to stay in Portland – however, it was unclear where the point guard would be accommodated. Now the answer has been found.
