After drama: WWE reassigns titles

On WWE Monday Night RAW, Piper Niven replaces the seriously injured Sonya Deville as Tag Team Champion – in a curious way. Meanwhile, the big storylines continue to simmer

Following the ongoing injury misery surrounding the women’s tag team titles, WWE has reassigned the belts – in curious fashion.

On the latest edition of the TV show Monday Night RAW, Piper Niven presented herself as Chelsea Green’s new partner, replacing Sonya Deville, who is out of action with a torn cruciate ligament 1:1

Green had been pressured by matchmaker Adam Pearce to vacate her title in a staged backstage segment earlier, while at the same time the duo of Kayden Carter and Katana Chance were staking claims.

Green responded that she would rather put out a “casting call” to find a new partner and title holder. Heavyweight Niven – the former Doudrop – took it at her word, attacking Carter and Chance, taking the second title belt and catching everyone off guard.

Later it was made official that the Scot – last seen not on WWE TV for around three months – now holds the titles along with Green.

WWE RAW – the rest of the news and highlights:

Parallel to this, RAW continued to push the bigger storylines: World Champion Seth Rollins granted Shinsuke Nakamura a title match after the latter’s attack on him last week, though no time has yet been named.

The generational feud between Becky Lynch and legend Trish Stratus is also still unresolved: the match between the two, which was supposedly scheduled for SummerSlam and then postponed due to time constraints, ended in a draw with both being counted out. Pearce therefore announced a cage match between Lynch and Stratus for next week, ruling out that possibility.

RAW was framed by kthe Judgment Day grouping and the ongoing tensions within the alliance: “Mr. Money in the Bank” Damian Priest inadvertently cost leader Finn Balor a match again when Cody Rhodes intercepted the metal case he brought into play and used it to his advantage.

Judgment Day then attacked Rhodes and the rushing Sami Zayn together anyway. However, a rift with Priest hinted at, with Rhea Ripley now also casually grumbling – while Balor’s compatriot JD McDonagh is positioning himself as a new member, much to Priest’s displeasure.
