As expected, Moin Chaabani is Tunisia’s new national team coach. The 45-year-old is now the third head coach in just a few weeks.
Tunisia had a disastrous World Cup. The North African team lost all three of its Group F matches with a goal differential of 2–12, making it the second-worst team by the numbers at the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada—behind only Iraq, which also finished Group I with zero points but a goal differential of minus 11.
This performance led to personnel changes even during the tournament. After a 1–5 loss to Sweden in their opener, then-national team coach Sabri Lamouchi was summarily dismissed and replaced by Hervé Renard. But the Frenchman’s tenure also came to an end after just a short time following a 1–3 loss to the Netherlands and a 0–4 defeat to Japan. The 57-year-old was unable to reach an agreement with the federation to extend his contract, which was initially set to expire at the end of the World Cup.
Moin Chaabani is now taking over. It had been all but certain for some time that the 45-year-old would get the job, as his most recent club, the Moroccan side RS Berkane, had already announced it. Chaabani led Berkane to its first-ever league title in the 2024–25 season, but he celebrated his greatest successes back home: With Esperance Tunis, he won the African Champions League in 2018 and 2019, as well as a total of five league titles over two stints.
