Alexander Zverev will face Croatia’s Matej Dodig on Saturday afternoon. The US Open champion heads into the Davis Cup as the favourite.
US Open winner Alexander Zverev will play the opening match for Germany at the Davis Cup this weekend. The 29-year-old will first face Matej Dodig on Saturday in the second-round tie against Croatia; the match gets underway in Halle/Westphalia at 2.00 pm (free live stream on tennis.de). Daniel Altmaier will then play the second singles match against Dino Prizmic. This was decided by Friday’s draw.
The doubles match is scheduled for Sunday; at 12.00, US Open finalists Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz will take on Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic, the Tokyo Olympic champions. For the remaining singles matches, the line-up from Saturday will be shuffled: Zverev will face Prizmic, and Altmaier will face Dodig.
The final will take place in Bologna
A maximum of five matches are scheduled; the team that wins three matches advances to the final round. This will take place from 24 to 29 November in Bologna, Italy. Eight teams will compete; hosts and defending champions Italy have already secured their place. Germany have won the competition three times to date, though their last victory was 33 years ago.
Zverev’s participation, just under a week after his maiden triumph at the US Open, makes Germany the favourites. He last played for the national team in 2025, when the DTB side were knocked out by Spain in the semi-finals. He was absent from this year’s first-round match against Peru in Düsseldorf.
