McLaren leads the World Championship – and Zak Brown raves about Norris and Piastri: Why he thinks the duo is unbeatable and even expects an epic duel
McLaren boss Zak Brown is very happy with his Formula 1 driver duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Speaking to Sky, Brown said: “I wouldn’t want to swap our duo for any other.”
The reason is obvious: McLaren is clearly leading the Formula 1 constructors’ championship at the summer break and is also ahead in the drivers’ championship with Piastri. Norris is close behind in second place in the interim world championship standings.
According to Brown, this is also a result of the internal teamwork between his two Formula 1 drivers. “They complement each other perfectly, are extremely fast and learn from each other,” Brown explained.
“You can already see on Friday in practice how they put one or two more wheels over the line. You can just tell that they push each other and get the best out of each other.”
Above all, however, Norris and Piastri are also “very compatible on a personal level,” said Brown. He considers this to be “something special.”
Why Brown remains relaxed
But will that remain the case when the 2025 world championship battle intensifies and comes down to the two McLaren drivers? Brown doesn’t seem worried: “We’re enjoying it. We are racers. It’s exciting for us to watch them battle it out.“
”Of course, we know there’s a lot at stake, but we’re neither intimidated nor concerned. That’s because we have a great, open, and transparent relationship with both drivers. I see no reason why they can’t fight an epic duel right to the end. May the better driver win.“
Special praise for Piastri – and for good reason
Brown doesn’t want to say which of the two that might be. However, he praises Piastri in particular, saying that the Australian is generally ”very straightforward.”
Brown explained: “When we talk to him on race morning, he has everything well thought out. He doesn’t make things unnecessarily complicated, doesn’t overthink things, he just gets on with it.” With a smile, Brown added: “Oscar reminds me of myself – he’s just a lot faster!”
