WTA Finals: Siegemund loses second doubles match

Laura Siegemund missed another surprise at her first WTA Finals. She lost her second doubles match with Wera Swonarewa

Tennis player Laura Siegemund missed out on another surprise at her first WTA Finals. Together with her doubles partner Wera Swonarewa, the 35-year-old from Metzingen lost her second appearance in Cancun, Mexico, against Gabriela Dabrowski/Erin Routliffe (Canada/New Zealand) 4:6, 2:6. Siegemund/Swonarewa had already lost to the duo in two sets in the final of the US Open.

In the last match of the “Mahahual Group”, Siegemund/Swonarewa will now battle Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula for a place in the semi-finals. The Americans have lost their previous two matches in Mexico.

Siegemund and her partner have been in strong form recently, winning the tournament in Nanchang/China in mid-October. In Cancun, they managed an unexpected 6:3, 6:7 (6:8), 10:5 win over the Czech pairing of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova. The seven-time Grand Slam winners Krejcikova/Siniakova had won the 2021 finals and reached the final in 2022.
