FC Barcelona’s options at center forward are slowly dwindling. As is well known, Robert Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford had already left, and now Ferran Torres has also departed the club. The Spaniard, who scored the decisive goal in the World Cup final against Argentina, is joining Paris St. Germain, as the French club announced on Saturday. According to consistent media reports, the Champions League champions are paying around 50 million euros to Barcelona for the services of Ferran Torres, who signed a contract through 2031.
Ferran Torres’ departure doesn’t really come as a surprise; there have been repeated reports recently about the forward’s possible move to France. So far in his career, the 26-year-old has played exclusively in Spain and England; now he will also get to experience French soccer and Ligue 1. In the French capital, he will wear the number 9 jersey. “I’m very excited to embark on a new adventure at such an ambitious club as Paris Saint-Germain,” the new signing is quoted as saying in the press release.
Ferran Torres took his first steps in professional soccer at Valencia CF. He made a total of 84 appearances for the “Bats,” scoring eight goals, and helped the team win the Spanish Cup in 2019. In 2020, the versatile Spanish forward moved to England to join Manchester City. Under Pep Guardiola, he won one English league title.

After two years, 35 games, and 13 goals, Ferran Torres packed up and left England to join FC Barcelona, where he continued to add to his trophy collection. With the Catalans, he secured three league titles and one Spanish Cup. For the Spanish World and European champion, his time in Barcelona is now coming to an end after four and a half years and 182 games (55 goals).
His departure is, of course, a huge blow to the Catalans, as this marks the third potential center forward to leave the club, following Lewandowski and Rashford. Hansi Flick’s team is slowly coming under extreme pressure to act.
