World boxing federations draw consequences

The war in Ukraine is not without consequences in the world of boxing. The sport’s four biggest federations decide on a joint plan.

The war in Ukraine is also having an impact on the boxing world. Thus, the four major federations WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF have announced that Russia will no longer be allowed to host boxing matches of their federations.

In a joint statement calling for peace and an end to the conflict, it says: “The four world boxing federations have united to express their position on the tragic war taking place as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “

And further, “Just as the world is calling for a ceasefire, our organisations have decided not to sanction any more championships in Russia. Just as this war has put an end to boxing in Ukraine, our organisations will not sanction any fights in Russia until the situation is further assessed. May God bless everyone and bring peace to our world.”

With former heavyweight world champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko two former boxers are involved in the middle of the action. Both have already called on the world to support Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion.
