He already knows the Bundesliga from his time at Eintracht Frankfurt, and now Jesper Lindström is set to make his comeback in the top flight: the Dane is leaving SSC Napoli and moving to VfL Wolfsburg.
According to VfL, Jesper Lindström will initially be on loan from Italian champions Napoli for one year, with the loan fee reportedly around one million euros, according to unconfirmed media reports.
“Jesper has experience in the Bundesliga and at international level. With him, we are gaining a dynamic and very versatile player who can fill almost any position in midfield,” said sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz on the VfL website. “We are delighted that he is already part of our squad and will be working with the team at the training camp.”
Lindström thus returns to the Bundesliga, which he already knows from his time at Eintracht Frankfurt. The 25-year-old Dane played for SGE between 2021 and 2023, triumphing with Eintracht in the Europa League in 2022 (5-4 on penalties against Glasgow Rangers). Twelve months later, he moved to SSC Napoli, but he couldn’t get a foothold at the club. He made 22 appearances in the entire 2023/24 season, but none of them were for the full 90 minutes, and he only played 431 minutes for Napoli in Serie A.
That’s why he went on loan to Everton FC for the 2024/25 season. Although he got significantly more playing time, he rarely progressed beyond the status of a substitute at Goodison Park. And in his 25 Premier League appearances, he failed to score a single goal. Now he is making a new start in the Bundesliga.
This means that VfL Wolfsburg has secured its third new signing for the upcoming season. Aaron Zehnter (Paderborn) and Vinicius Souza (Sheffield United) had already joined the Wolves.
