After winning numerous titles with FC Bayern Munich, Thomas Müller also has a good chance of winning trophies with his new club. The first opportunity comes on October 1.
Without former national player Thomas Müller, who was rested, the Vancouver Whitecaps have reached the final of the Canadian championship. With a 4-0 (2-0) win in the second leg against Forge FC, the former Bayern star’s team has a good chance of winning the separately held competition for the fourth time in a row. The first leg in mid-August also ended in a 2-2 draw at the Canadian Premier League club’s stadium without Müller.
After 13 German championships, six DFB Cup victories, two Champions League successes with FC Bayern Munich, and winning the 2014 World Cup with the national team, title collector Müller can now hope for his next trophy. The Whitecaps are also on course for the playoffs in Major League Soccer.
Final on October 1
The final opponent for the Canadian championship will be determined between Atletico Ottawa and Vancouver FC, both of which are active in the Canadian Premier League. The final will take place on October 1 at the Whitecaps’ stadium.
The tournament winner qualifies for the Champions Cup for North and Central America and the Caribbean.
The goals for coach Jesper Sörensen’s team were scored by Tristan Blackmon (7th minute), J.C. Ngando (29th), Sebastian Berhalter (49th/penalty kick), and Jayden Nelson (85th).
