With option to buy: Zaragoza leaves Bayern for Vigo

Bryan Zaragoza is leaving FC Bayern once again, with a return unlikely. Celta Vigo has secured the services of the winger.

Bryan Zaragoza, who still has a contract with FC Bayern until 2029, will initially be loaned out for one season, after which Celta Vigo will have an option to buy, according to a statement from the Spanish club. Zaragoza stands out “for his direct style of play, his dribbling skills and his ability to break through defensive lines – qualities that will help him fit into Claudio Giraldez’s team, which has an exciting season ahead in the Europa League,” said the Galician club.

“Bryan unfortunately had a lot of bad luck with injuries last season. We agree that the best way forward for him is to gain more experience in his native Spain,“ said Christoph Freund, sporting director at FC Bayern, in a statement. ”Regular appearances for a Spanish first division club that is also playing in the Europa League will give him the best chance of achieving his dream of playing for Spain at the World Cup.”

In the winter of 2023/24, Bayern couldn’t sign Zaragoza fast enough. The transfer, which had been planned for the summer, was brought forward by six months because the German record champions were plagued by injury problems. The Munich club therefore loaned him from FC Granada for six months before exercising their option to buy.

But the first six months were sobering for the diminutive dribbler: he came on as a substitute six times in seven appearances for Zaragoza, failing to score or register an assist. In the summer of 2024, Bayern loaned him to CA Osasuna, where the three-time Spanish international was able to show his talent again (28 games/one goal, six assists). Now he is returning to his homeland once more.
