Alexander Zverev wants to keep his dream of winning his first title on grass alive at the ATP tournament in Halle. An Italian awaits him in the quarterfinals.
Can Alexander Zverev fulfill his dream of winning his first tournament on grass at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle/Westphalia? The German number one will face Flavio Cobolli from Italy in the quarterfinals on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
After his three-set victory over Cobolli’s compatriot Lorenzo Sonego, Zverev is now fighting for a place in the semifinals. His opponent there would be the winner of the match between Daniil Medvedev and Alex Michelsen.
Zverev recently won convincingly against Cobolli
Zverev has fond memories of the former soccer player, who once played for AS Roma’s youth team. In the third round of the French Open, Zverev won in straight sets.
Zverev is competing in Halle for the ninth time, having reached the final twice: in 2016 he lost to Florian Mayer and in 2017 to Roger Federer.
His chances of winning his first title on grass have increased slightly following the surprise exit of top favorite and defending champion Jannik Sinner. The world number one was knocked out by Alexander Bublik on Thursday.
This year’s tournament winner will receive around 470,000 euros and 500 points in the rankings.
