Will HSV loanee Sahiti never play for Maccabi Tel Aviv again?

It was only in the winter that HSV professional Emir Sahiti was loaned to the Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv. However, he has already left the country again for security reasons. Whether he will return at all is highly questionable.

In the first half of the season, Emir Sahiti did not get the playing time he wanted, which is why the right winger moved from Hamburger SV to Maccabi Tel Aviv on loan in January. He immediately settled in well there, scoring four goals in his first five competitive games. Maccabi are even said to have considered exercising the agreed purchase option of 500,000 euros at the end of the season.

However, things have changed completely in the meantime. Due to the war in Iran and the unstable situation in the Middle East, the seven-time Kosovo international will apparently no longer play for the Israeli club and has already left the country with his family for security reasons.

Sahiti was one of two foreign players to miss Maccabi’s 4-1 win over Hapoel Haifa at the Easter weekend. According to Israeli media reports, his club is assuming that the 27-year-old attacker will not return to Tel Aviv.

League resumes – without spectators

Five weeks after the start of the Israeli and US attacks on Iran, the first league in Israel has resumed play in recent days. However, due to the Iranian missile attacks on the country, games are being played without spectators.

Immediately after the start of the war and the interruption of league operations, Maccabi Tel Aviv allowed its foreign players to leave Israel for security reasons. Sahiti and his family traveled to Croatia, where he played for Hajduk Split and HNK Sibenik until his transfer to HSV in the summer of 2024.

As the club prepared for the restart of the Israeli league with a training camp in Cyprus, some of the professionals rejoined them. However, Sahiti and Venezuelan Kervin Andrade refused to return.

The loan contract with Hamburger SV expires on June 30. Sahiti is then tied to the Bundesliga club until 2027. While he scored three goals in 22 games in the 2nd Bundesliga last season, Sahiti only featured in the first two matchdays in the Bundesliga, after which he shuttled between the bench and the stands.
