The Basketball Löwen Braunschweig will continue to compete in the easyCredit BBL during the 2026/27 season. The league has awarded the club a wild card.
With the awarding of the wildcard, the easyCredit BBL has completed its field of participants for the 2026/27 season. The Basketball Löwen Braunschweig have been granted automatic entry and will thus remain in the top division.
The process was initiated in early June after it became clear that only one team would be promoted from the ProA to the Bundesliga based on on-court performance. This left one spot open for the upcoming season.
As the 17th-place team in the standings last season, Braunschweig had priority in the wildcard selection. After the club met all formal requirements, the shareholders’ meeting of BBL GmbH approved the license grant.
Braunschweig will pay a compensation fee of 800,000 euros to participate. The league did not disclose how the funds will be used. The 18 clubs of the Basketball Bundesliga will decide on the allocation of the funds.
