When does the 2023 summer transfer window close?

Once again, the summer transfer window has set new records – also in the Bundesliga. But soon it will be over, because the gates close at the beginning of September.

Even though many clubs have supposedly already finalised their squads, the transfer market still holds a few surprises in its final phase.

Saudi Arabia scouring Europe

So the Saudi Professional League threw its vast amounts of money around and lured many well-known players from Europe to the Gulf state. Neymar, Karim Benzema or Jordan Henderson are just a few examples.

Four of the top five leagues close simultaneously

But soon the transfer madness will rest again for a while, as the infamous “Deadline Day” draws ever closer. Four of the five clubs from the top leagues (England, Spain, Italy, Germany) have until 1 September (6pm) to sign new players. In the Netherlands, transfers are only permitted until 31 August.

In addition, the transfer of own players is only possible if the player is sold or loaned to a country where transfers are still allowed at that time. Players could then still be transferred to Turkey (8 September) or Portugal (22 September), for example.

Uncontracted players as an exception

Uncontracted players are an exception. These can be signed at any time, as there is no need to negotiate with another club to sign the player.
