Weinzierl’s hope does not come true: Double ligament injury for Uduokhai

Felix Uduokhai (24) will miss FC Augsburg for the time being. The centre-back suffered a ligament injury in Friday night’s match in Bielefeld (1:0).

“I hope it’s just a ligament, then it will get better again faster,” FCA coach Markus Weinzierl had still said after the win over Arminia Bielefeld.

Now it is certain: His hope was not answered. The club announced on Monday that the centre-back’s examinations have shown “that two ligaments in the ankle joint have been damaged”. Uduokhai is therefore out of action “for the time being”. The club is not predicting any downtime.

Uduokhai suffered the injury in the 1-0 win on the Alm in a duel with Bielefeld’s Patrick Wimmer midway through the first half. The defender twisted his ankle and was eventually substituted after a lengthy break for treatment.

For Uduokhai it is the next health setback of the season. In the first half of the season, he was first slowed down by a complicated tendon tear in his thigh and then by a corona infection. From the 4th to the 17th matchday of the current Bundesliga season, the 24-year-old was not available for a single game. Now he has to accept the next compulsory break.
