WEC Fuji 2025: Cadillac takes pole position again

Both Cadillac V-Series.R cars qualify for the front row of the 6 Hours of Fuji – Aston Martin third after setting the fastest time earlier in the session

Cadillac occupies the front row for the third time this season in qualifying for the World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Fuji.

Alex Lynn topped the timesheets in Hyperpole in the 38 (Bamber/Bourdais/Button), continuing his pole position streak at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Interlagos.

Lynn drove two laps in the 10-minute Hyperpole for the ten fastest cars, which were enough to secure pole position.

With a time of 1:28.637 minutes on his first fast lap, he narrowly beat Bamber, who had set a time of 1:28.675 minutes.

Both Cadillac drivers attempted to improve their times. Lynn managed to improve his time by four tenths of a second to 1:28.236 minutes, while Bamber was two tenths of a second slower.

Marco Sörensen secured third place on the grid for Sunday’s 6-hour race at Fuji in the 009 Aston Martin (Riberas/Sörensen).

The Dane had set the fastest time in the first qualifying session, but only managed fifth place in his first fast lap in the Hyperpole.

He improved to 1:28.705 minutes, jumping behind the Caddys to the best place among the other manufacturers.

Peugeot, which had been at the top of the free practice sessions together with Aston, took fourth place thanks to Mikkel Jensen in the Peugeot 93 (di Resta/Jensen/Vergne).

With a time of 1:28.716 minutes, he was more than a tenth of a second ahead of Sheldon van der Linde, who finished fifth in the BMW 20 (Rast/Wittmann/S. van der Linde) with a time of 1:28.854 minutes.

Antonio Giovinazzi finished sixth in the 51 Ferrari (Pier Guidi/Calado/Giovinazzi), which leads the championship, with a time of 1:28.945 minutes.

The Porsche works team took seventh place with the Porsche 8 (Buemi/Hartley/Hirakawa) in eighth place with a time of 1:29.071 minutes.

Charles Milesi and Robert Kubica rounded out the top 10 in the Alpine 83 (Kubica/Ye/Hanson).

Despite their strong performances in free practice, Aston and Peugeot only managed to get one car each into Hyperpole.

Harry Tincknell braked too late in Turn 10 during regular qualifying in a lap that looked good enough to get the Aston Martin 007 (Tincknell/Gamble) into Hyperpole.

The Brit improved his time but only jumped to 11th place, missing Hyperpole by 0.03 seconds, followed by Stoffel Vandoorne’s Peugeot 94 (Duval/Jakobsen/Vandoorne) in the Belgian’s last race for Stellantis.

Kevin Estre, who had won the race in Austin, finished last in the Porsche 6 (Estre/L. Vanthoor) because he braked too late in Turn 1.

Second pole for Barrichello

Eduardo Barrichello took his second LMGT3 pole position of the season after Sao Paulo in the RSL-Aston Martin 10 (McIntosh/Barrichello/Hasse-Clot).

The Brazilian jumped to the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:39.981 minutes on his final lap in Hyperpole.

He beat Sean Gelael in the United Autosports McLaren 95 (Leung/Gelael/Sato) by just 0.03 seconds.

Gelael’s time of 1:40.011 minutes was only 0.002 seconds faster than Sebastien Baud in the United Autosports McLaren 59 (Cottingham/Baud/Saucy).

The Fuji 6-Hour Race starts on Sunday at 4 a.m., which is 11 a.m. local time.
