“We will already rotate”: Nagelsmann announces three starting debutants

On Wednesday evening, FC Bayern München will make up for the first round of the DFB Cup at third division side Viktoria Köln. Coach Julian Nagelsmann will change his starting eleven – and wants to field three professionals from the start for the first time.

In front of 50,000 spectators at the sold-out Rhein-Energie-Stadion, Viktoria Köln will challenge the record champions in the first round of the DFB Cup on Wednesday evening and will then face a much-changed Bayern eleven. “There could be five changes. We will rotate a bit,” announced Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann on Tuesday. The starting line-up will then probably also include “one or two established players”.

Jamal Musiala will not yet be on the pitch for kick-off. “He is not at 100 per cent yet. Jamal is in as normal but will not play from the start,” Nagelsmann said. The 19-year-old was recently suffering from a strain in the transition from the hip flexor to the adductors. Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich, on the other hand, are expected to be involved and will not get a break for the time being.

Goretzka and Choupo-Moting could be involved

Instead, Nagelsmann wants to help four Bayern professionals make their starting debuts: Striker Mathy Tel, full-back Noussair Mazraoui and midfielder Ryan Gravenbech, the 35-year-old announced. In addition to centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, Josip Stanisic is also likely to slide into the team. This would mean that the Bayern coach would change his eleven in five positions compared to the 1:1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

At least on the bench, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Leon Goretzka could also be involved. Both have been missing for a long time due to injury, and Nagelsmann wants to “give both of them rhythm” – depending on how the duo copes with the training sessions in the run-up to the match.
