Villa continue to strengthen: Disasi also moves to Birmingham

After Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford, Aston Villa have also strengthened with center-back Axel Disasi at the end of the transfer period – with possible implications for an ex-Borussia player.

The busy days at the end of the winter transfer window continue for Aston Villa: after Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford, central defender Axel Disasi is also moving to Birmingham – also on loan.

The 26-year-old, who joined Stamford Bridge from Monaco in 2023 for a mid-double-digit million sum, is joining the Villans until the end of the season. The right-back was no longer in coach Enzo Maresca’s squad for Chelsea’s Premier League game against West Ham United (2-1) on Monday evening.

However, this is not an exception in the Blues’ bloated squad, with Disasi mainly used in cup competitions and the Conference League. In England’s top flight, the five-time international had only been used six times this season. In his new home, the Frenchman is expected to fill the void left by the injured Tyrone Mings (knee injury) and Pau (broken metatarsal).

Impact on Malen?

For the courted central defender – among others, Tottenham Hotspur are said to have made intensive efforts to sign the 26-year-old – coach Unai Emery’s team is willing to pay a reported loan fee of five million euros to the league rival.

However, the signing could have major implications for an ex-Dortmund player: with Asensio, Rashford, Donyell Malen and now Disasi, Aston Villa now have four notable winter signings. However, only three new players can be registered for the remaining Champions League matches.

So Malen could even miss a possible round of 16 tie with his former employer if the worst comes to the worst. As seventh in the league phase, the Villans could face BVB in the play-offs if they survive last year’s finalist. In the Premier League, Villa are six points behind Chelsea, who are in fourth place.
