VfB presents Champions League jersey – with chest ring trick

Five days before the start of the league phase, VfB Stuttgart have released their Champions League jersey. It is more expensive than the other three outfits this season

For the first time in 15 years, VfB Stuttgart are back in the Champions League this season. And the runners-up are treating themselves to an outfit of their own: on Thursday, five days before the opening game in the top flight at defending champions Real Madrid, Stuttgart presented their jersey for the Champions League season, which will include at least eight games.

Like the home jersey, this jersey is also white with a red chest ring, but with special elements: The polo collar contains a button placket, the logo of kit supplier Jako on the chest is gold, as is the embroidered VfB crest on the back of the collar. The chest ring is also slightly different to the one on the home shirt, with red outlines and the VfB lettering in the background.

The Swabians have come up with a trick for the back of the jersey: in order to comply with the UEFA requirements for Champions League kits, the chest ring does not run on the outside, but on the inside, so it still remains continuous. For the numbers and players’ names, which are black in the Bundesliga, VfB chose the color gold – in their own words “suitable for the premier class.”

The fourth jersey for the current season – and the most expensive

After the home and two away jerseys – one red, the other black – this is already the fourth outfit the club has unveiled for the 2024/25 season. And it is also the most expensive: while the other three cost 84.99 euros for adults (children: 64.99 euros), the Champions League jersey costs 94.99 euros (children: 74.99 euros).

CEO Alexander Wehrle is already looking forward to “unforgettable European Cup evenings in the premier class” in the new jersey, while Chief Marketing Officer Rouven Kasper even sees it as a “statement for VfB”. It stands “for our unique history and at the same time our ambition to make our mark in Europe again after a long break”.

The Bernabeu in Madrid would actually be the perfect stage right at the start next Tuesday – but there is one problem: because the royals are likely to play in their traditional white kit, VfB will probably have to switch to one of their away kits.
