Seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams has lost her first singles match in almost a year.
The 42-year-old US player lost to Canadian Rebecca Marino 6-4, 1-6, 4-6 in her first round match at the WTA tennis tournament in Washington. The sister of Serena Williams last played a singles match in Chicago on 23 August 2021, where she lost to Taiwan’s Su-Wei Hseih.
