In Delray Beach, the Americans lose the two final singles matches, and the Czechs advance to the finals.
Record winners USA have missed out on the Davis Cup finals. The 32-time winners of the traditional tennis team competition lost 2-3 to Czechia in Delray Beach, Florida, and are still waiting for a triumph since 2007. Czechia will fight for its fourth title in the finals in Bologna (November 18-23).
Jakub Mensik won the decisive singles match against Frances Tiafoe 6-1, 6-4. Jiri Lehecka had previously triumphed 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 against world number five Taylor Fritz. The USA had led 2-1 after the doubles.
In addition to the German team, the teams from Argentina, Austria, and France had previously secured their tickets to Bologna in the qualifying matches. Twenty-eight-time winner Australia is on the brink of elimination after falling behind 0-2 against Belgium, and Spain (0-2 against Denmark) will also face a tough battle on Sunday.
