Alan Permane will remain Formula 1 team principal at Racing Bulls until 2031: under the Briton’s leadership, the Young Bulls have enjoyed the most successful season in the team’s history

Alan Permane will remain team principal at Racing Bulls until 2031. The Briton has extended his contract with Red Bull’s sister team on a long-term basis, as the team announced early on Friday morning in Brazil.

” “I am extremely proud to continue this journey with Racing Bulls, and I would like to thank everyone at Red Bull for the trust and support they have shown in me,” says Permane.

“What makes this team so special is the shared team spirit of everyone – at the circuit, in Faenza and in Milton Keynes. It is a privilege to lead such a talented and dedicated group day in, day out.”

Permane joined the team as Racing Director in January 2024 and helped build it up alongside Laurent Mekies, before being appointed Team Principal in July 2025 when Mekies succeeded Christian Horner at Red Bull.

Since then, the team has put in a strong performance: at Zandvoort in 2025, Isack Hadjar secured the first podium finish under the new team identity; the team also finished sixth in the Constructors’ Championship, setting the best result in the team’s history.

This season, however, they are expected to surpass that result once again: with four races remaining, the Young Bulls sit in fifth place and already have a 39-point lead over Alpine.

“The battle for fifth place in the championship is something we can all be very proud of,” emphasises Permane. “But this is the result of years of hard work by an enormous number of people – and we’re far from finished. We have the right people, the right culture and a clear vision of where we want to go. I’m looking forward to continuing to give it our all together.”

For Red Bull, the extension of their team principal’s contract was a mere formality given the results: “Alan is doing a fantastic job, and the progress the team has made is the direct result of his experience, his commitment and his winning mentality,” emphasises Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.

“He brings clarity, composure and a deep understanding of what it takes to perform in Formula 1 – whilst at the same time creating an environment in which staff can consistently give their best,” he praised.

Mintzlaff emphasises that Permane has “played a key role” in the team’s progress, “and we are delighted that he will continue to lead the team as we aim to build on this momentum in the years to come.”

Together with Managing Director Peter Bayer, Permane forms a strong and experienced leadership duo, according to Mintzlaff. “They complement each other perfectly and bring different strengths and perspectives to the organisation. I am very pleased that we have this stability and continuity, which provides us with a clear platform for the team’s future development and long-term ambitions.”

Permane brings more than three decades of Formula 1 experience to his role, having started his career at Benetton. He spent 34 years with the Enstone-based team as a race engineer, chief race engineer and later as sporting director, where he celebrated World Championship successes alongside Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso.
