The “Eisernen” are still on the hunt for a midfielder. Their attention is now turning toward Pisa.
While 1. FC Union Berlin is looking for a forward and a midfielder—having recently signed Emmanuel Latte Lath as a new forward—they still need a player to anchor the midfield in front of the defense. This vacancy could also be filled soon: The “Iron Men” have set their sights on Michel Aebischer.
The Swiss national team player is currently still under contract in Italy with Pisa Sporting Club, but following the team’s relegation to the second-tier Serie B, he is looking for a new challenge so he can continue to prove himself at the highest level. Furthermore, following the relegation, the club is in need of revenue. Union has made an offer of three million euros.
Aebischer is versatile in midfield
Pisa itself signed Aebischer in the summer for 4.5 million euros. The central midfielder was on loan from FC Bologna last season—with an obligation to buy if he made 25 appearances. The 29-year-old played a total of 35 matches, scoring one goal and setting up two others. He then made four appearances for Switzerland at the World Cup, starting twice.
He could soon be playing for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga. The 44-time national team player is versatile in midfield and can play both in the center and on the wing. Aebischer is considered a technically skilled box-to-box player whose strengths lie in both his ball-handling and defensive play.
