Ratiopharm Ulm suffered its only home defeat of the season against Academics Heidelberg. Now the Swabians have a chance to get revenge – and at the same time close the gap on league leaders Munich for the time being. Meanwhile, Heidelberg is in danger of losing its direct playoff spot.
Strong final quarter enough: Ulm gets revenge against Heidelberg
Revenge achieved! After suffering their only home defeat of the season against Heidelberg in the first half of the season, ratiopharm Ulm got their revenge in the second meeting. The Swabians were once again led by Israeli top talent Ben Saraf (17).
Until the final quarter, neither team gave an inch. It was only in the last ten minutes that the second-placed team was able to pull away. This was mainly because Heidelberg only scored four points (all free throws) in the last five minutes. Ulm took advantage of this to win with a 19:4 run.
Heidelberg seems to be running out of steam in the decisive phase of the season. The defeat was their fourth in a row, dropping them to eighth place. Ulm is now ahead in the race for first place and could even claim it if Bayern loses.
Turnover festival knocks Bamberg out against Ludwigsburg
After six consecutive defeats, Bamberg returned to winning ways on the last matchday. However, they were unable to build on this against Ludwigsburg, who are still fighting for a place in the postseason.
The Upper Franconians were too unfocused, committing 16 turnovers and giving up 18 offensive rebounds. In the end, Ludwigsburg had 14 more shots on goal. Thanks to their better shooting percentage, the visitors ultimately won by a narrow margin.
Ludwigsburg’s Joel Scott excelled with a double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds). Kyle Lofton was Bamberg’s top scorer with 15 points.
