Barcelona and Chelsea have been handed heavy fines by UEFA for breaches of financial fair play rules. Ten other clubs have also been asked to pay up.
UEFA is cracking down hard in some cases. Conference League winners Chelsea have been fined €31 million for various financial fair play violations. A further €60 million could be added to that, the continental governing body announced.
Spanish champions FC Barcelona have also been asked to pay up. Hansi Flick’s team must pay €15 million, with a further €45 million suspended.
Olympique Lyon, Chelsea’s Premier League rival Aston Villa, AS Roma, Hajduk Split, FC Porto, Panathinaikos Athens, Besiktas, FK Bodö/Glimt, FK Sarajevo, and Wisla Krakow have also been financially penalized and must pay fines.
Restrictions on player registration
Barcelona, Chelsea, Lyon, Aston Villa and Split will also face restrictions on player registration in UEFA competitions next season. Lyon will be excluded from UEFA club competitions in 2025/26 if the French federation confirms the club’s relegation to Ligue 2.
