UEFA doubles prize money for Women’s EURO

Never before has so much money been involved in the Women’s EURO 2022. The difference to the men, however, remains considerable.

Compared to EURO 2017 in the Netherlands, UEFA will distribute twice as much prize money to the 16 participating teams at the 2022 tournament in England – €16 million instead of eight million.

“The distribution key provides for an increase in the guaranteed amounts as well as performance-related bonus payments for the group stage,” UEFA announced the day after the UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Chisinau/Moldova on Wednesday, without giving further details.

The “significant increase” according to UEFA, however, is on a modest level if one compares the prize money with that of the Men’s EURO: At EURO 2020, UEFA had distributed a total of 331 million euros, albeit to 24 participants.

Nevertheless, for the first time, the women’s clubs in Europe will receive financial compensation for fielding players in the European Championship in 2022. According to the association, the pot totals 4.5 million euros.
