In order to become even more international and further position itself on the Asian market, FC Bayern will once again travel to South Korea and Hong Kong during the 2026 summer preparations. This will be particularly special for one professional.
Min-Jae Kim will return to his native South Korea for a second time with FC Bayern. On Friday morning, the Munich club announced that they will once again be flying to Asia as part of the Audi Summer Tour from August 1-8. First they will travel to the South Korean island of Jeju, then to Hong Kong.
Two test matches have also already been arranged for the period: In South Korea, head coach Vincent Kompany’s team will play Jeju United on August 4, followed by a clash against Aston Villa at the Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong on August 7. The new Bundesliga season is scheduled to begin on August 28, 2026.
Asia “equalizes” against the USA
“It says a lot that FC Bayern will be holding its tenth Audi Summer Tour locally,” says Rouven Kasper, Board Member for Marketing and Sales: Internationalization is “indispensable for the whole of German soccer in order to develop further”.
The ninth trip of this kind had also gone to Kim’s homeland two years ago, garnished with a 2:1 test match victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
No such tour was possible in 2025 due to the Club World Cup. The German champions visited Hong Kong once before in 2007, winning 2-1 against FC Sao Paulo with new signings Franck Ribery and Luca Toni. The goals were scored by Miroslav Klose and Hamit Altintop.
The importance of the Asian market for Bayern is demonstrated by the fact that this is the fifth time they have traveled to the continent to the east with this campaign. Previously, China and Japan’s capital Tokyo in conjunction with Singapore and, most recently, Seoul in 2024 were on the agenda twice. This “equalizes” the Asian destinations with the USA, where the Munich team has also been a guest five times in this context. “We are at home in Munich and at the same time have our fans and partners all over the world in mind,” says Kasper: “Around one billion people sympathize with FC Bayern, a good half of them are from Asia.”
